Welcome to the online home of Paul Cook, living in Johannesburg, South Africa. I head up the technology side of Thornhill Associates. Many of the posts on this currently less-than-wildly-active site date from my time as a physics PhD student at the California Institute of Technology.

PUNishment

These friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town, to "persuade" them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop. Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that only Hugh can prevent florist friars.

This site was made partially to help me learn modern web standards. But I can't be bothered to spend hours dealing with browsers that don't handle these standards properly. Yes, I'm talking about Internet Explorer, that most broken of browsers. So, this site looks best in anything other than Internet Explorer. I suggest Mozilla FireFox, but you can use anything.
